Pest and disease control of Hawaiian coconut

Pest and disease control of Hawaiian coconut

1. Diseases

(1) The first disease is called “brown spot disease”. This disease harms the leaves of the plant and is closely related to watering. The specific prevention and control method is: water it appropriately during its growth period, and it is better to let the soil be a little drier than to let it be too moist. If you water too much, the leaves will rot or turn yellow, affecting the appearance. In addition, when the air is relatively dry in summer, you can water it two to three times a day to ensure vigorous growth of branches and leaves.

(2) The second disease is called “downy mildew”. To deal with this disease, first remove the diseased leaves, and then spray some disinfectant.

In addition, appropriate light should be provided to increase the disease resistance of the plant. It is a green plant that needs the care of sunlight, but direct sunlight should be avoided. If the leaves are exposed to the sun, they will turn light yellow or wither directly, which will cause further damage to the plant. At the same time, it is very shade-tolerant, so when the plant just enters the growth stage, it is best to provide some shade protection and not let the plant be exposed to direct sunlight.

2. Pests

Type: The main common insect pest is called "brown leaf scale". This pest can occur multiple times a year and cause great harm. To prevent and control it, there are generally two different types of measures. The first is to suppress pests by introducing natural enemies, specifically by introducing ladybugs to the plants to eat the pests. The second method is to spray some pesticides, generally omethoate, once every two weeks.
