Diseases of daffodils

Root rot

Soak the roots in 0.1% mercuric chloride for about half an hour. If it is during the growth period of daffodils, you can spray 700 times diluted 79% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder.

Fusarium disease

This fungal disease can cause daffodil bulb root rot, initially at the base and then gradually spreading to the entire stem and scales. Prevention methods are as follows:

1. Short-term storage of bulbs needs to be placed in an environment with suitable temperature, humidity and good ventilation;

2. Pick out infected bulbs when planting;

3. If the temperature is above 14°C when planting bulbs, a wider crop rotation can be implemented.

Botrytis cinerea

In severe cases, the stems of daffodils can develop slowly or even fail to develop. Sometimes the base becomes brown and corky, affecting the rooting of the bulb. Specific prevention methods are as follows:

1. It is best to plant the daffodil bulbs immediately after getting them, or store them in a well-ventilated place;

2. Avoid damaging the bulbs of daffodils and disinfect the bulbs that may be infected in time;

3. When planting, it is appropriate to choose a mixture of black peat soil and sand as the substrate, and reduce the pressure of the substrate, place the bulbs on the top, and then cover it with a thin layer of coarse-grained river sand;

4. Cold treat the bulbs again after planting.

Daffodil Pests

Aphids and red spiders are the main pests of daffodils, and they can be effectively controlled by spraying 1000 times diluted 40% oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrate.
