Diseases of Silk Flower and Their Prevention and Control

powdery mildew

Powdery mildew is a common disease of silk flower. Leaves, branches and buds may be affected. Irregular spots will appear on the leaves, and the scope of the lesion will gradually expand, causing the leaves to dry and become deformed. If the flower buds become infected, they will become deformed or even shrink, reducing their ornamental value.

Silkworms are prone to disease when there is poor ventilation, insufficient light or excessive nitrogen fertilizer.

To prevent and control powdery mildew, you need to pay attention to winter pruning and remove diseased branches. Usually, pay attention to the application of nitrogen fertilizer, pay attention to ventilation and light, and be careful not to have water accumulation in the soil. When powdery mildew occurs on silk flowers, you can use pesticides such as carbendazim to spray and treat it.

Black spot

Black spot disease is also a common disease of silk flower, which mainly harms leaves and tender shoots. When the disease occurs, small brown spots will appear and gradually expand into dark brown spots.

When black spot disease occurs on the silk flower, you can spray some carbendazim or methyl thiophanate.

anthrax

When anthracnose occurs in the silk flower, spots will appear on the leaves and gradually become more serious. The disease is generally more likely to occur in warm and humid conditions.

During maintenance, pruning should be carried out in time, ventilation and light transmission should be strengthened, and diseased leaves should be destroyed in time if found. When the disease is serious, it is necessary to spray some pesticides such as Daconin wettable powder for treatment.

Leaf rust

Rust is also a common disease of silk flowers. Both leaves and branches will become diseased, and in severe cases, the leaves will fall off, making the plant lose its ornamental value or even die.

If leaf rust is found on silk flowers, it is necessary to spray pesticides in time for treatment, and it will recover after a period of time.

Pests of Silk Flower and Their Control

Scarab

Scarab beetles mainly harm the roots, leaves and buds of silk flowers, seriously affecting flowering. When scarab beetles are found to be causing harm, they need to be killed using methods such as light trapping. In serious cases, you can spray pesticides to kill insects, but be careful not to spray pesticides during the flowering period.

Other pests

Silk flowers will also encounter pests such as sawflies, rose leafflies, scale insects, aphids, etc., which need to be sprayed and killed in time. Pay attention to pruning the plants and increasing ventilation on a regular basis.
