In winter, protective facilities can be used for overwintering cultivation, but it is rarely cultivated in summer. However, due to the high demand in the summer market, various soups may use coriander to enhance the flavor, and the price is often very high. Therefore, many people here grow coriander in summer, using unused greenhouse facilities for protected cultivation, that is, shading and cooling. Here are some specific tips for growing coriander over the summer. The first step is to choose the varietyThere are many varieties of coriander, but some varieties are not suitable for summer cultivation. You have to choose those that are heat-resistant, disease-resistant, and stress-resistant, and they have to be old seeds from the previous year. The germination rate of seeds in the current year is very low. Such as Laoshan Coriander, Four Seasons Fragrant Coriander, Yangyuanye Autumn Coriander, Laiyang Coriander, etc. These varieties of coriander are more heat-resistant and have stronger disease resistance. The skin of coriander seeds is relatively hard, so the seeds must be processed before sowing. Gently rub the seeds with the soles of your shoes, and then soak them in warm water at about 50°C for half an hour. Then continue to soak them in cold water for another day and night. After taking them out, wrap them in wet gauze and place them in a cool place to germinate. Generally, the seeds can be sown after they start to turn white in 5-6 days. The second step is to prepare the land and make ridgesCoriander is sown in summer from June to July. We use it to plant spring cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage or cauliflower in the greenhouse. After the previous crop of vegetables is harvested, the fields should be cleaned in time, the stubble should be removed and the land should be prepared, sufficient organic fertilizer should be applied, and some urea, phosphate fertilizer, etc. should be applied. After careful plowing and harrowing, high ridges about 1.5 meters wide are generally made to prevent waterlogging in the fields during the flood season. Step 3: Sowing seedsAfter the ridge is prepared, water the bottom of the field and sow the coriander seeds after the water seeps in. You can also sow in rows, that is, first dig shallow furrows and water them thoroughly, and then sow the seeds. Whether broadcasting or furrow sowing, the thickness of the covering soil should be moderate, generally about 1 cm, and not too thick to prevent difficulty in unearthing. Summer is also the season when weeds are most prevalent. To prevent weed growth, you can spray dimethoate herbicide after sowing. For example, 50 grams of 33% pendimethalin EC can be mixed with 1 bucket of water (about 30 kg) and sprayed evenly on the ridge surface to weed. After sowing, pay attention to keeping the ridge surface moist, spraying clean water once in the morning and evening to facilitate the emergence of young shoots. Step 4: Set up the sunshade netIn summer, there is a lot of rain, which can easily cause impact on the bed surface. We always leave the film on the roof, and then cover it with a layer of sunshade net to play a role in shading and cooling. It is not necessary to cover it on consecutive cloudy days. Remove the skirt film around the greenhouse and use insect-proof sunshades to prevent whiteflies, leaf miners, etc. At the same time, hang silver-gray film in the greenhouse to repel aphids, and hang yellow sticky boards to lure and kill adult aphids, whiteflies, leaf miners, etc. Step 5: Field Management1. Thinning and finalization After the coriander seedlings emerge from the soil, they can be thinned out when they have one true leaf, and the spacing can be about 1 finger wide. When they have 5 leaves, the seedlings should be transplanted, with a spacing of 2-3 fingers wide. Be sure to keep seedlings of the same size. 2. Fertilizer and water management After the coriander seedlings emerge, water it once every 10 to 15 months, and apply fertilizers in combination with watering. Here we mostly apply triple compound fertilizer with water, usually about 10-15 kilograms per mu each time. However, 10-15 days before harvest, we generally stop applying fertilizers. 3. Pest and disease control Coriander is prone to more diseases and pests when cultivated in summer, the main ones being soft rot, leaf spot, mosaic disease and aphids. For the prevention and control of these diseases and pests, we must pay attention to the selection of drugs, mainly biological pesticides and low-toxic and low-residue pesticides, such as Nongkang 120, carbendazim, copper acetate, artemisinin, fatty acids, rotenone, etc. It is forbidden to use 10 days before harvest. Step 6: Harvest at the right timeThe harvest period of coriander is not very strict. It can usually be harvested about 50 days after sowing.
