How to sow water chestnuts

The seeds of water lily are very similar to those of water lily. They have a hard shell on the outside, but it is relatively thin and needs to be germinated before planting. In mid-March, soak the seeds in water or place them on a damp towel and wait for the seeds to slowly crack and germinate.

In early April, the seeds have basically germinated and the temperature has risen. They can be planted when the temperature reaches around 15℃. First, choose the soil and container for sowing. It is best to use river pond mud. Fill 2/3 of the container with soil and water it thoroughly. The water surface should be about 2 cm away from the soil. Sprinkle the seeds evenly on the soil, then cover with glass to keep warm. Floating leaves will grow in about a month, and you can take the glass away at this time.

How to divide water chestnuts

Propagation by division is mainly carried out in spring and summer. Taking advantage of the strong division ability of water chestnut, the runners formed by branches are separated. It is required that roots and sprouts grow on each stem node. They are cut off and planted in the original pot. When they grow into small plants, they can be repotted.

In many scenic spots, in order to increase the beauty of the pond, false roots on the stems or leaves are picked for reproduction. Although this type of division can cover the water surface with leaves in a short period of time, some plants only grow leaves but do not bloom.
