How to apply fertilizer to different types of flowers

Topdressing for bulbous succulent flowers

Because bulbs and fleshy stems can store nutrients and have fewer root systems, the amount of topdressing can be halved from the normal amount. Because they have high requirements for nitrogen, potassium and calcium, potassium nitrate and calcium nitrate are often used as the main ingredients when using formulated liquid fertilizers.

This type of flower requires to be planted in a loose medium, such as azalea and ornamental pineapple.

Top dressing requires small amounts and multiple applications. The amount of top dressing should be 1/5-1/4 of the normal amount, that is, 15-30 grains of compound fertilizer per pot each time.

▼ Rhododendron fibrous root

Topdressing for large-leaf foliage flowers

This flower grows rapidly, has a well-developed root system, and requires a lot of fertilizer, such as the Dieffenbachia of the Araceae family. In addition to the normal amount of topdressing twice a month, apply 100-120 grains of compound fertilizer each time, and spray formula liquid fertilizer 5-8 times.

Bonsai topdressing

The characteristics of bonsai fertilization are small amount and long-lasting fertilizer effect. It is usually made with slow-release organic fertilizers such as bone meal and cake fertilizer as the main component, and is mixed with slow-release urea formaldehyde, phosphate rock powder, etc. and a small amount of quick-release fertilizer.

If there is no ready-made bonsai fertilizer, you can use commercially available flower fertilizer and mix it with olive oil or plastic film wrapping liquid to achieve sustained and long-lasting effect. Just bury the fertilizer shallowly under the substrate at the edge of the pot.
