Pests of the lotus

Scale insects

More than 80% of the plants bought from flower markets and other places will have scale insects at the roots, which are often found at the roots or in the center of the plant in the early stages.

Prevention and treatment methods

To prevent scale insects, you can mix a small amount of furadan or carbofuran into the soil.

When scale insects are found, they need to be immediately isolated from other plants and the infested parts need to be cut off. You can spray Flower Protector on the affected areas or irrigate the roots to kill them. It will take at least several weeks to completely eliminate the pests.

Diseases of the lotus

Black rot

Some parts of the plant turn black and rot, mostly at the roots.

Black rot often occurs in summer, usually due to poor ventilation, high temperature and high humidity, and sometimes due to scale insects.

Prevention and treatment methods

To prevent plant black rot, you can add a small amount of fungicides such as thiophanate-methyl and carbendazim to the soil.

When a plant is infected with black rot, it should first be isolated from other plants. In the early stages, the rotten parts can be cut off, and fungicide can be applied to the cut. After drying, it can be inserted into loose sandy soil to allow it to re-root.

If the black rot is severe, the plant has died and should be discarded as soon as possible to prevent infection.
