What are aphids and how to control them

What are aphids and how to control them

1. What are aphids?

Aphids, also known as honey insects and sticky insects, are herbivorous insects and one of the most destructive pests. There are many types of it, and more than 4,400 species have been discovered, of which 250 are more harmful to agriculture and horticulture. Especially for crops such as wheat, oats, barley, etc. In addition, its distribution range is also wide, but it is mainly concentrated in temperate regions.

2. Prevention and control methods

1. Drug control: If a large number of aphids are found, you can spray pesticides for control. The drug can be 1000 times diluted 50% cypermethrin emulsion, 1500-2000 times diluted 40% imidacloprid aqueous solvent, or 3000 times diluted 50% cypermethrin wettable powder. You can also mix laundry detergent, urea and water and spray them. Spraying them two or three times in a row will be effective.

2. Artificial control: In autumn and winter, you can paint the base of the tree trunk white to prevent aphids from laying eggs. It is also necessary to combine pruning, cut off the dead flowers and branches and burn them in a concentrated manner. If you find a small number of aphids in spring, brush them off with a brush to prevent further reproduction.

3. Protect natural enemies: It has many natural enemies, such as ladybugs, parasitic wasps, lacewings, etc., which have a strong inhibitory effect on aphids. Therefore, when applying pesticides, use less broad-spectrum pesticides to avoid killing natural enemies. If conditions permit, you can also artificially raise natural enemies of aphids and release them in areas where aphids are active to effectively prevent and control them.
