Don’t clean up the dead leaves of succulents? It would be bad if pests appeared

Dry leaves explained

1. For plants like Sedum and Sedum, because their leaves are thick and shriveled, they will automatically fall off. Even in the summer, if the maintenance environment changes suddenly, even the good leaves will suddenly fall off.

2. The leaves gradually shrivel and wither, but they still cling to the mother plant and remain firmly attached to the stem. Most of the Echeveria plants fall into this category.

3. Transparent water is mostly caused by the fact that the succulents have just been brought home and planted not long ago, causing discomfort due to sudden changes in the growth environment. During the later growth stage, the transparent leaves will slowly dry up or turn into water, so don't feel bad and just clean them up. The turning of leaves into water actually provides a moist environment for the growth of bacteria. It's a potentially dangerous element.

The harm of not cleaning dry leaves

The overlapping layers of leaves have become a breeding ground for pests such as scale insects. Because of watering, the accumulated dead leaves can easily form a hot and humid environment, leading to insect outbreaks. Scale insects will pierce the roots of succulents, causing the poles to gradually become rotten and eventually collapse with a loud bang.

The correct way to clean up dead leaves

Hold the succulents and then clean the dead leaves underneath. Remember to be gentle! Don't accidentally insert the cleaning tweezers into the soil, as this may damage the roots.

The fallen leaves should be cleaned up without hesitation. If they are still attached to the succulents and are difficult to remove, you can wait a few days before cleaning them to avoid damaging the succulents by pulling them hard.

If there are many dead leaves on the succulent plants, after cleaning them, you may find that the succulent plants can't stand steadily! Don’t worry, find a small object at home to support the succulents, and after the succulents grow for a while, they will be stable!

The correct way to clean scale insects

If you find that your succulents have attracted scale insects when cleaning up dead leaves, if the affected area is not large, you can wipe it with alcohol. This will remove the scale insects more cleanly and kill the eggs that are invisible to the naked eye!

If the insect plague is very serious, you can consider using pesticides, such as Multi-Chong Mite Ding, Flower Protector, Supu Sha, etc., mix them according to the proportion, and spray them at the scale insects. But be careful. After spraying, place it in a cool place and avoid direct sunlight, because the concentration of the medicine will increase after the water evaporates, which can easily damage the succulents.

How to effectively reduce leaf litter

Please do not ignore the importance of paving stones.

Look at this female chick. The bottom is completely ruined because of the dead leaves at the bottom.

If there is a paving on top, at least after watering, there will be a paving separating the dead leaves at the bottom and the moist soil, and it will be breathable, and it will not absorb moisture so easily, and perhaps it will not rot away bit by bit.

After reading this, do you still dare to be lazy and not clean the dead leaves of your succulents at home?
