What to do if ivy leaves turn black

1. Reasons

When the temperature is below 5℃ or around 0℃, the leaves of ivy will change from green to dark green and purple. Also, during the growing season, the temperature is obviously higher than 5℃, but the leaves will still turn black, especially in summer. This situation is caused by sooty mold. This should be because scale insects have already occurred. Their excrement has contaminated the leaves, which then become moldy and develop sooty mold, so the blackening phenomenon occurs.

2. Solution

If the problem is caused by low temperatures, move the plant to a warmer area and the dark purple leaves will turn green.

If the leaves turn black in summer or during the growing season, the scale insects must be removed first. Generally, scale insects occur on the back of leaves or on petioles and branches. You can wipe them off with a used toothbrush or soft cloth, then dip them in neutral detergent water to wash off the black color on the leaves, and then rinse the leaves with clean water. This will solve the problem of black leaves.
