What to do if hydrangea root rots

What to do if hydrangea root rots

1. Replace the soil

Reason: Hydrangea likes to grow in acidic soil with good drainage. If the soil in which it is planted is alkaline soil with poor drainage, it will easily lead to poor growth or even root rot.

Solution: Replace it with well-drained acidic soil in time. Soil rich in humus is best. Suitable soil can be more conducive to its growth.

2. Watering in moderation

Reason: Excessive watering during daily maintenance will cause a large amount of water to accumulate in the potting soil and be unable to drain. Once water accumulates, the roots of the hydrangea cannot breathe normally, which will cause root rot.

Solution: At this time, you must reduce the amount of watering and water scientifically and reasonably. Before watering, you can look at the color of the potting soil. If it becomes lighter or cracks appear, then water it appropriately. It is best to water it thoroughly, and do not only water half of the potting soil.

3. Reasonable fertilization

Reason: Reasonable fertilization is more conducive to its growth. If too much fertilizer is applied, the roots of the hydrangea will be burned and cause root rot.

Solution: Apply fertilizer in moderation, but not too much. Provide sufficient nutrients during its growth period. Apply fertilizer once every 15 days or so. This will help hydrangeas grow better and the flowers will bloom bigger. After the roots rot, cut off the rotten parts, disinfect them, and repot them.
