Can Amaryllis bloom in winter?

Can Amaryllis bloom in winter?

1. Flowering period of Amaryllis:

Amaryllis will enter a dormant period in November. Watering is strictly prohibited during this period. Care should be started as early as December. If the flowers are to be overwintered, care can be started in March of the following year. Amaryllis hibernates for up to two months, so if you want it to bloom in winter, you need to put it into hibernation in advance.

2. Regulation of flowering period:

1. Temperature treatment

Amaryllis cannot tolerate low temperatures, so the growth temperature needs to be strictly controlled. If Amaryllis cannot be given a stable and suitable temperature, it may never wake up during hibernation. During the winter, if the temperature is too low, it may cause the leaves to fall off and eventually enter a dormant period. If the temperature is too high and too few leaves fall, the plant will become evergreen and will not bloom.

2. Moisture treatment

In November, Amaryllis is about to enter a dormant period and should be placed indoors without watering. Remember, never water even if the soil is dry. However, if you want Amaryllis to bloom in winter, the grower can water the plant normally after it goes dormant. When dormancy ends, watering can break the dormancy of the plant and accelerate the growth form of the plant. When the growing environment is suitable, Amaryllis can thrive. In winter, Amaryllis requires loose and fertile soil.

3. Light processing

Amaryllis likes sunshine and does not like hot environments. It needs a lot of sunlight during its growth stage, which is especially suitable for Amaryllis that has just awakened. In winter, it is recommended that you place amaryllis in indoor balconies, windowsills and other places to facilitate the plants to receive light.

4. Notes

In order to better maintain Amaryllis, the whole plant needs to be kept, unless the leaves are dry, yellow, etc. and have to be removed. Breeders sometimes trim the leaves of Amaryllis in summer, which is not advisable. You know, without leaves, you can't accumulate energy and you can't better prepare for the coming cold winter. The leaves of Amaryllis should be preserved as much as possible.
