Coffee grounds as fertilizer

Coffee powder can be used as fertilizer for plants, but it cannot be applied directly. It needs to be fermented and decomposed. Coffee powder contains about 2% nitrogen, which can convert organic matter into fertilizer to provide nutrients. It has the effect of improving plant soil and supplementing acidic nutrients.

Coffee powder can be used as flower fertilizer. It can be used to fertilize plants that like nitrogen compounds, most perennials, and alliums. Sprinkling coffee powder in the pots of acid-loving plants grown at home, such as azaleas, roses, and camellias, can help them produce more beautiful and colorful flowers.

How to make fertilizer from coffee grounds

1. Dry compost

Place the coffee powder on the balcony and stir it every day. After about 10 days, the potted plants can be put in.

2. Wet composting

Place the coffee powder on the balcony to prevent it from getting moldy. Do not turn it over and stir it. You will notice it is moldy after a few days. Mix it with sand and place it in a potted plant.

3. Bagging

Put the coffee powder in a fertilizer bag and place it where it is not exposed to direct sunlight. The compost will be fully fermented to 60°C. After 2 or 3 days, the high carbohydrates in the coffee powder will be decomposed first.

Key points for using coffee grounds fertilizer

Coffee powder can be used as fertilizer. Adding a small amount of coffee powder into the soil and mixing it evenly can be beneficial to the growth of flowers and plants. However, be careful not to brew coffee powder with boiling water and then use it for watering, because the acidic substances it contains will inhibit the growth and development of flowers and plants.
