What to do if cyclamen root rots

What to do if cyclamen root rots

Causes of Cyclamen Root Rot

The main reasons include low temperature, bacterial infection, etc. The most common reasons are high temperature and humidity in summer, poor ventilation, or excessive water accumulation.

Overwatering

Excessive watering during the growth period will cause the potting soil to be saturated with water, the roots will be in a state of suffocation for a long time, the absorption capacity will decline, the soil will lack oxygen, bacteria will be active, and many harmful gases will be produced, which will cause the tubers to rot.

Improper fertilization in pots

Cyclamen is a bulbous plant, and the normal growth of its roots is related to the health of the entire plant. If the tubers are planted too deep in the pot and the top is submerged when fertilizing, it can easily cause rot.

How to deal with cyclamen root rot

How to prevent cyclamen root rot

In order to avoid root rot of cyclamen, do not water it directly on the head when watering, otherwise water will accumulate in the center of the tuber. The correct way is to gently lift the leaves and water slowly along the edge of the pot. And, adhere to the principle of not watering until the soil is dry. The same applies when applying fertilizer. In addition, the fertilizer should not be too concentrated, otherwise it will burn the roots. In summer, you should pay attention to protecting cyclamen from heatstroke and cooling them down.

How to deal with cyclamen root rot

If the bulb of the cyclamen has rotted, you can use a sharp knife to cut off the rotten part, apply wood ash on the wound, dry the wound in the shade, and replant it in permeable and breathable soil. It will gradually recover in about a month. Try to water as little as possible during this period. If most of it has rotted away, it is not worth restoring and it is recommended to discard it.
