How to repot lucky bamboo

How to repot lucky bamboo

1. The purpose of repotting

The matrix contains various conditions and nutrients required for the growth and development of lucky bamboo, such as water, air, minerals, etc. After a period of cultivation, the above substances in the matrix will be consumed due to its metabolism, resulting in the deterioration of the physical and chemical properties of the matrix. Not only is it lacking in nutrients, but its ability to permeate water and ventilate becomes poor, making it difficult to support its healthy growth. It will have some adverse phenomena, mild cases include yellowing and withering leaves, reduced flowering, and severe cases include leaf shrinkage and cessation of growth.

At this time, we need to repot it and plant it in a new substrate to give it better growing conditions and help it grow more healthily.

2. How to change the pot

1. Prepare new flower pots and substrates, disinfect them and set them aside.

2. Wait for a sunny, warm, windless morning or evening to start repotting.

3. Prepare a large bucket of water. You can use rainwater or tap water that has been left for a few days.

4. Place the new pot completely in the water and allow it to absorb water to prevent it from robbing the substrate of moisture.

5. Take the new basin out of the water, pour out the water inside, and put it away. Spread a layer of small stones or small tiles on the bottom to increase the water retention and air permeability of the substrate. Spread another layer of substrate on top for later use.

6. Pour water through the old pot, then use a shovel to insert it along the edge of the pot to the bottom of the pot, and then rotate it along the wall of the pot. Then shake the old pot to loosen the substrate inside.

7. Hold the bamboo body with your hands and take it out together with the substrate underneath.

8. Check the removed bamboo and substrate, and remove the rotten bamboo and substrate with obvious attachments.

9. Place the treated bamboo in a new pot and add some substrate. At this time, be careful not to fill too much, just make sure the height of the soil is the same as the original soil height. The matrix is then compacted.

10. Place the new pot with the bamboo in a cool place and pour plenty of water on it. Be careful not to expose it to direct sunlight at this time.
