Causes and treatments of yellow leaves of Vinca

Causes and treatments of yellow leaves of Vinca

1. Insufficient light

Reason: It is a light-loving plant. Only with sufficient sunlight can it grow lushly and its leaves will be bright. However, if it grows in the shade for too long and lacks sunlight, the leaves will turn yellow or even wither.

Solution: The plant needs to be moved to its original breeding place and placed on a sunny balcony or windowsill for maintenance, ensuring that the light exposure is between 6-8 hours. Sufficient sunlight will reduce the occurrence of yellow leaves.

2. Unsuitable soil

Reason: It has high requirements on soil. If the soil where Vinca is planted is alkaline, compacted, and poorly aerated clay soil, it may lead to poor soil drainage, poor air permeability, or even be too barren, causing the Vinca to grow poorly and its leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: You need to replace the potting soil of the plant immediately. The soil can be replaced with fertile, well-drained, and more breathable acidic soil. Or the soil can be a mixture of leaf mold, sandy soil, coal slag, and garden soil. Some decomposed organic fertilizer can also be mixed into it, which can better promote the growth and development of Vinca.

3. Insufficient fertilization

Reason: Vinca is a fertilizer-loving plant. If there is not enough nutrients, it cannot grow normally and yellow leaves will appear.

Solution: Yellow leaves caused by lack of nutrients can be treated by replenishing nutrients in time. In the early stages of growth, some nitrogen fertilizer can be applied to promote growth. During the peak growth period, some compound fertilizer can be applied to meet the growth needs of Vinca. Before flowering, you can apply some cake fertilizer water, so that its flowers will be fuller and the leaves will be greener.

4. Temperature discomfort

Reason: Vinca grows well in warm environments and is sensitive to temperature. If placed outdoors and the difference between day and night is too large, it will seriously affect the root stem's absorption of water and nutrients, causing yellow leaves.

Solution: At this time, you need to cut off the yellow leaves first, move the potted plant to a warm room, and wait for the plant to recover. During the breeding process, it is necessary to ensure that its growth temperature is between 16-25 degrees Celsius. Another thing to note is that Vinca has average cold tolerance. Below 10 degrees Celsius, growth slows down. It will enter a dormant state when the temperature is below 5 degrees Celsius, so when the temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius, it should be moved indoors for maintenance and keep warm.
