What to do if the bottom folds of the cactus are wrinkled and shrunken

What to do if the bottom folds of the cactus are wrinkled and shrunken

1. Drainage and root pruning

Reason: Cactus grows well in dry places. Too much watering can easily cause the roots to rot, causing the bottom folds to wrinkle and shrink.

Solution: Drain the water in the pot in time and check the root rot. If a small part is rotten, cut it off and put it in a cool and ventilated place. Wait until the wound is dry, then replant it in slightly moist sandy soil. It cannot be exposed to light and should not be watered, but you can spray it around with a watering can. If the rot is severe, exceeding one-third, it is basically hopeless.

2. Increase the temperature

Reason: Cactus grows well in a warm environment. If the temperature is below 0℃ for a long time, it will cause frostbite and the folds at the bottom will shrink.

Solution: This situation often occurs in winter. Sandy soil for planting usually has poor heat retention properties, so the roots may be frozen. You need to put it in a warm place indoors, or you can put a bag on it to keep it warm.

3. Proper watering

Reason: Cactus is relatively drought-resistant, but the water content in the plant is limited. Long-term lack of watering will cause the bottom folds to wrinkle and shrink.

Solution: Water the cactus in time. You can water more during the growing season and less at other times.

4. Provide shade in time

Reason: Although cacti like light, they cannot tolerate direct exposure to the sun. Dehydration due to direct exposure to the sun will also cause wrinkles and shrinkage at the bottom.

Solution: Place the cactus in semi-shade, water it appropriately, and wait for it to recover. After recovery, it can be exposed to light, but it should be properly shaded at noon to avoid water loss due to excessive sun exposure.
