Causes and treatments of yellow leaves of crape myrtle

Causes and treatments of yellow leaves of crape myrtle

1. Natural Aging

Reason: Metabolism is the most common phenomenon in the growth process of plants. Yellowing of leaves is one of the typical manifestations of plant metabolism. It is normal that some leaves will turn yellow and fall off due to the depletion of nutrients.

Measures: If it is natural aging, there is no need to worry too much. Just trim the yellow leaves in time and continue with normal maintenance.

2. Overwatering

Reason: Crape myrtle is relatively drought-tolerant and has strong drought resistance. If you water too much, water will accumulate, and the roots will not be able to absorb nutrients from the soil, and normal nutrient transfer will not be completed, which will eventually cause the leaves to turn yellow.

Measures: Excessive watering can cause root rot, so you need to cut off the rotten parts and repot and replant. When watering crape myrtle, you should adhere to the principle of not watering unless the soil is dry. When you do, water it thoroughly and make sure there is no water accumulation. During the rainy season every year, attention should be paid to drainage to prevent root rot.

3. Powdery mildew disease

Reason: There are many common diseases in the process of plant growth, powdery mildew is one of them, and crape myrtle is more susceptible to powdery mildew. Powdery mildew can cause the leaves of crape myrtle to dry and turn yellow, and then gradually fall off, affecting the growth of the plant and hindering its appearance.

Measures: To address the disease problem, maintenance and prevention work should be done regularly. You can spray 500 times diluted 80% concentration of mancozeb wettable powder and 800 times diluted 50% concentration of carbendazim wettable powder.
