How long does it take for rosemary cuttings to take root? When does the cutting take root?

Rosemary cutting rooting time

The best time for rosemary cuttings is in spring and autumn, specifically in March-April and September-October each year. The temperature is suitable during these two periods, and it is also the season for plant growth. It will take about half a month for the cuttings to take root.

Rosemary can also be propagated by cuttings in winter, but the temperature outside is relatively low, so it is best to move it indoors. As long as a warm environment is provided, it can still survive. In summer, due to the hot weather, the cut surface is easily infected by bacteria and rot, so it is not recommended to propagate by cuttings in summer.

Rosemary cutting rooting method

1. Rosemary can be propagated by cuttings, which is generally suitable for early spring. It can improve the survival rate of rosemary. Before cuttings, you need to cut healthy and disease-free lignified stems from the mother plant. The length can be controlled between 10 and 15 cm.

2. After spraying the soil with water, you can cut the rosemary branches into soft and moist soil. During the maintenance period, you need to control the water and keep the soil slightly moist to avoid water accumulation. After about 20 to 30 days, when the roots grow, you can place it in a warm, ventilated and well-lit place for maintenance.

Rosemary cutting method

1. Cut branches: Cut branches from rosemary that is in good growth condition. Cut them with a sharp knife. The cut should be flat. Remove the leaves at the base of the plant, keep the top 3-5 leaves, and then place the branches aside to dry.

2. Prepare the substrate: Rosemary has no special requirements for the container for cuttings. The substrate can be prepared by mixing vermiculite, perlite, and peat soil. Put it into the flowerpot and compact it slightly. Pour a certain amount of water on it to keep the soil moist.

3. Carry out cuttings: Insert the processed rosemary branches into moist soil at a depth of about 4-5 cm. Pay attention to the spacing between the branches, which should not be too dense. After inserting, place them in a ventilated and cool place, spray water mist on the plants regularly, and slowly increase the light time after rooting.
