What to do if orchid leaves turn yellow

What to do if orchid leaves turn yellow

1. Increase moisture

Reason: Orchids like humid growing conditions. If they are in a water-deficient environment for a long time, their leaves will turn yellow. In addition, if the humidity of the air is too low, it may also cause their leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: Water the orchid in appropriate amounts, and replenish water in time when the soil is dry. In addition, if the air humidity is low in summer, you can place a basin of water next to the plant to increase the air humidity.

2. Reduce watering

Reason: Watering too much at one time will cause water to accumulate in the soil, affecting the entry of oxygen. The roots of orchids cannot absorb nutrients normally in the absence of oxygen, and their leaves will turn yellow and dry.

Solution: If the situation is not very serious, you can raise the flower pot, loosen the soil, etc. to allow the moisture in the soil to evaporate. If the situation is serious, you need to remove the orchid from the pot, cut off the damaged roots, and then place it in new soil. Reduce watering thereafter to prevent this from happening again.

3. Reduce light

Reason: Prolonged exposure to the scorching sun in midsummer can burn the orchid's leaves and turn them yellow.

Solution: Move the orchid to a semi-shaded place for maintenance. When growing it outdoors, certain shade measures must be taken except in winter. But be careful not to completely block out the light.

4. No processing required

Reason: Orchids with a relatively old age will have some old leaves, which will turn yellow and fall off as the plant grows.

Solution: This is a normal physiological phenomenon of orchids and we don’t need to take any measures to deal with it.
