What to do if the leaves of white palm turn yellow

The reason why the leaves of white palm turn yellow

Sudden environmental changes

When people suddenly change their environment, they will suffer from acclimatization and physical discomfort, and the same is true for plants. Sudden changes in the living environment of the white calla lily, sudden changes in soil, temperature, humidity and light, or root damage during repotting or improper seedling acclimatization can all cause the leaves of the plant to turn yellow.

Improper watering

Anthurium has fleshy roots and although it can be grown in water, it does not mean that it needs more water when grown in soil. Especially if the watering method is incorrect, with small amounts of water each time and frequent watering, water can easily stay at the connection between the rhizomes, causing the root growth point to rot and die. The young leaves are dark yellow and dull, and the new shoots are shrunken and not growing.

Soil alkalinity

Anthurium prefers acidic soil. If planted in the north, because the water and soil are alkaline, long-term application will cause the leaves to gradually fade, turn yellow, and even fall off.

Sun discomfort

Strong direct sunlight can easily cause the leaf tips and edges to dry out, and yellow spots to appear on the sunny parts of the leaves. However, white anthurium needs better light in winter and early spring, and no shade.

Temperature discomfort

Anthurium requires semi-shaded place to grow, and its leaves are prone to yellowing when the temperature is below 5℃ or above 35℃. The leaves are dull and have lost their luster. Long-term low temperature will cause the above-ground parts to turn yellow.

Overfertilization

Anthurium does not like fertilizer. Excessive fertilization will cause the tips of old leaves to turn yellow and fall off, while the new leaves will be thick and shiny but bumpy and not stretched out.

Solution to yellowing leaves of white palm

Ensure that the maintenance environment is relatively stable

Reduce the degree of change in the environment and wait for it to adapt. If the rhizome of the plant is damaged, place it in a cool place and wait for it to slowly adapt.

Choosing the right soil

Choose acidic soil when planting and water it during daily maintenance. The simplest way is to water it with fermented rice water or rainwater, which can reduce the alkalinity of the soil.

Strengthen maintenance

The yellowing of anthurium leaves is usually caused by improper maintenance, such as improper watering, fertilization, and light. The frequency of watering should be reduced, and water thoroughly again after the moisture in the soil dries up slightly.

As the light becomes stronger, gradually provide shade. If the plant is exposed to too much sunlight, move it to a shaded place immediately. Control the temperature well and move indoors in time if the temperature is too low.

Tips to prevent white palm leaves from turning yellow

To control the temperature, you can increase the amount of water sprayed or sprinkle water on the ground, or you can cover it with a transparent plastic bag, and open it for ventilation for half an hour at noon to prevent the seedlings from being burned by high temperature.

After autumn, you can place it on a south-facing balcony or windowsill and get some sun every day. It is best to change the potting soil in spring.

Watering must be controlled. If placed indoors, water it once every half a month. If it can see sunlight, water it once a week. Once a month, water it with a thin layer of fertilizer.
