How to prevent and treat yellowing of chrysanthemum leaves

How to prevent and treat yellowing of chrysanthemum leaves

What to do if the chrysanthemum leaves turn yellow

Soil is alkaline

Chrysanthemums prefer fertile, permeable, slightly acidic soil. Soil with a pH value greater than 7.5 can easily cause the lower part of the chrysanthemum to lose leaves or the leaves of the entire plant to turn yellow.

Solution: Water the plant frequently with fermented rice water or rain water. However, do not use domestic wastewater at will, as it will affect the growth of the plants.

Too much watering

Too much watering will cause the soil to be waterlogged for a long time, with poor air permeability and even some fibrous roots rot, resulting in the chrysanthemum's young leaves becoming dark yellow and dull, and the new shoots shrinking.

Solution: The principle of watering chrysanthemums is to water them when the soil in the pot is dry, not water them if the soil is not dry, and water them thoroughly when you do. The climate is hot in summer and the soil in the pot is easy to dry out. You need to water it sufficiently, but not at noon. Water it enough in the morning and water it again in the evening if the soil in the pot is dry. Pour water from the side basin after rain. When watering, prevent soil from splashing onto the leaves.

Too little watering

Because chrysanthemums have not been watered thoroughly for a long time or are dehydrated, the new leaves have normal color, but the lower leaves gradually dry up, turn yellow, fall off and age.

Solution: Chrysanthemums need sufficient watering during their growth period. They can be watered again after the soil in the pot is dry, but be careful not to water them when the sun is strong at noon.

Overfertilization

Excessive fertilization of chrysanthemums can also cause the leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: When fertilizing chrysanthemums, you should apply thin fertilizers frequently. You can apply slightly thicker fertilizers after the flower buds appear. Top dressing can be made by adding 2 parts of decomposed bean cake or sesame oil residue to 8 parts of clean water, and apply once every 7-10 days. After buds appear, you can apply 1 part fertilizer to 3 parts water, and then add a small amount of potassium dihydrogen phosphate for top dressing. After application, rinse the fertilizer off the leaves with clean water in time.

Leaf blight damage

Leaf blight infection is one of the reasons why chrysanthemum leaves turn yellow and wither, and it mainly harms the flowers and leaves of chrysanthemums.

Solution: Spray 500 times wettable concentration of mancozeb or zineb once every 15 days.
