Prune is a nutritious fruit , rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, etc., and can be made into dried fruits, candied fruits and other foods. The climate and soil conditions in the south are suitable for growing prunes. Let’s learn about the planting methods and management of prunes in the south.

1. Site selection and land preparation

Choose a plot with fertile soil and good drainage, which is conducive to the growth of prunes. Before planting, the land should be prepared, the soil should be loosened and the air permeability of the soil should be improved. At the same time, according to the soil fertility, apply an appropriate amount of decomposed organic fertilizer to provide a good environment for the growth of prunes.

2. Suitable varieties

The climatic conditions in the southern region are different from those in Western countries, so it is necessary to choose prune varieties suitable for the local environment. It is recommended to choose varieties that are early maturing, heat-resistant, have large and plump fruits and a sweet taste.

3. Sowing and seedling raising

In the south, prunes are usually planted in spring. Select healthy seeds that are free of pests and diseases and treat them for germination. When sowing, spread the seeds evenly on the seedbed and cover them with a thin layer of soil. After sowing, keep the soil moist and it will germinate in about 2 weeks. When the seedlings grow to a certain height, they are transplanted and enter the seedling raising stage.

4. Water and fertilizer management

In the dry season in the south, it is necessary to water the plums in time and keep the soil moist, which is conducive to the growth of the plums. Fertilize regularly to provide adequate nutrients for the prunes. You can use furrow application or foliar spraying. Note that the amount of fertilizer should be adjusted according to the growth conditions of the plant and soil fertility.

5. Pruning management

During the growth period of southern plums, side branches should be pruned in time to promote the growth of main branches and improve fruit quality.

6. Pest and disease control

There are many diseases and insect pests in the southern region, and prevention and control need to be strengthened. Check trees regularly and take timely preventive measures when diseases and insect pests are found to keep the trees healthy.
