Causes of pitcher plant root rot

The root system of Pitcher plant is relatively developed, and it is usually planted in a pot with sphagnum moss. If the pot is not well-ventilated, is shallow, or is watered too frequently, it is easy to cause water accumulation in the pot and induce root rot.

Solution to pitcher plant root rot

Choose a deep flowerpot, at least 10 cm deep, and it is best if there are holes in the bottom of the pot; when using sphagnum moss in the pot, it is not necessary to cover the entire plant, and some gaps can be left to increase air permeability; if root rot has already occurred, you can dig out the plant and rinse it underwater. For roots that are not completely rotten, you can cut off the rotten part, let the wound dry slightly, and then plant it in a pot with new planting material.

Causes of pitcher plant black spot

Poor ventilation and overly shady environments can easily induce black spot disease in pitcher plants. It manifests as circular spots on the leaves of the plant, with black mold growing on them.

During the cultivation process, pitcher plants are easily attacked by red spider mites, aphids and root mealybugs. In order to grow our pitcher plants well, we must pay extra attention to insect prevention!

Methods for controlling red spider mites in pitcher plant

Dilute avermectin 2000 times or dimethoate 1000 times, add to a spray bottle, shake well and spray. When spraying the pesticide, be sure to move the potted flowers outdoors. If spraying indoors, keep away from food and utensils.

Bottle grass aphid control method

Dilute 10% avermectin emulsifiable concentrate 3000 times and spray it on the leaves. When spraying, you can wear a mask and gloves to protect yourself and your family.

Methods for controlling mealybugs on pitcher grass roots

Dig out the pitcher plant and soak the whole plant in diluted flower-protecting potion. After about 1 hour, rinse the whole plant with clean water, rinse off the remaining pests, and place the plant in a cool place to dry. Be sure to replace the pots and planting materials and thoroughly disinfect them with insects and sterilize them.
