How to make the rubber tree grow more side branches? Can the main trunk be carved?

1. How to make rubber trees grow more side branches

If you want the rubber tree to grow more side branches, the most effective and simple method is to cut off its head, allowing the rubber tree to grow new buds again.

1. Beheading: Prepare a pair of gardening shears and use them to cut the rubber tree in half, leaving the base of the branch at about 50 cm. The cut can be sealed with wax produced by burning candles to prevent the branch from losing water and bacterial infection. Remove all the leaves on the branch.

2. Maintenance: Place the rubber tree in a well-ventilated place with diffused light after beheading. After about a month, the rubber tree will sprout new stems and leaves at the bud points of the branches. After sprouting, the plant will grow rapidly. In three or four months, the rubber tree will grow into a new potted plant with many side branches.

3. Cuttings: Don’t throw away the pruned rubber tree branches. Dry the cut ends of the fresh branches, insert them into moist potting soil, place them in a cool and ventilated place, keep the soil slightly moist, and after the branches take root, you can grow a new rubber tree.

2. Can the trunk of a rubber tree be carved into buds?

Rubber trees can be carved into buds, but the branches and trunks of the rubber trees must be of a certain thickness. Use a knife to make a cut 0.5-1cm above the bud on the branch. The length of the cut should be half the circumference of the branch, and the depth should be enough to just break the bark. If you operate during the warm spring, the rubber tree will quickly send out side buds.
