How to take care of newly bought gardenias

1. How to deal with the gardenias you bought

If you have just bought a gardenia, you need to check its basic conditions. If it is a seedling that has just grown small roots or the roots are shallow, then you should cut off the flower buds and leaves in time and wait quietly for the roots to grow completely to prevent too much influence from being divided, which will affect its rooting and adaptation to the environment.

2. How to cultivate the purchased gardenia

1. Soil: When you just buy it, you should pay attention to ensure the air permeability of the soil. The air holes may be blocked due to bumps during transportation. Clear the air holes at the bottom of the flowerpot and remove stones and other debris from the soil surface. Generally speaking, unless there are special circumstances such as severe soil compaction or broken pots, you should wait for an adaptation period of about a week before changing the pot.

2. Light: When gardenia is first bought, its growth will become slower due to changes in the environment. At this time, if it is placed in an area with sufficient soft light, it will be able to better adapt to environmental changes. However, it cannot be exposed to strong sunlight, as too drastic environmental changes may cause it to wither due to its inability to adapt.

3. Fertilization: Generally speaking, the flowers brought back from the flower market do not need to be fertilized at the beginning. On the one hand, florists will carry out scientific cultivation and fertilization; on the other hand, gardenias that have just changed their environment grow more slowly and require less nutrients. If the leaves suddenly turn yellow over a large area, you can apply a small amount of fertilizer containing ferrous sulfate solution.
