How many years does it take for a chestnut tree to bear fruit?

After several years of planting, chestnut trees bear fruit

The chestnut tree is a deciduous tree that is suitable for growing in an environment with an average annual temperature of 8-22℃. The plant is light-loving and is generally planted in mid-to-late March. Common production areas include Hebei, Shanxi, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Shandong and other provinces.

Chestnut trees will not bear fruit until 4-8 years after planting, and grafted plants will start to bear fruit after 2-3 years. The lifespan of the plant can reach about 20-35 years, and it will enter the peak fruit-bearing period at 15-16 years.

Reasons why chestnut trees do not bear fruit

1. If the chestnut tree does not bear fruit, it may be because of unsuccessful pollination. When the plant blooms, there are more male flowers and no female flowers, which results in no fruit.

2. The reason why chestnut trees do not bear fruit may also be due to insufficient nutrients. Insufficient nutrients will affect the differentiation of flower buds, so nutrients must be applied in time before flowering.

Chestnut tree planting technology and key points

1. Reasonable intercropping

The growth cycle of chestnut trees is relatively long. You can choose peas, peanuts and other crops for reasonable intercropping, and pay attention to the planting density of intercropped crops.

2. Loosen the soil and expand the hole

The soil needs to be loosened in the autumn of the year after the chestnut trees are planted. The depth of the soil cannot be less than 30 centimeters. In addition, the planting hole can be appropriately enlarged. Just be careful not to damage the root system of the plant.
