1. Base fertilizer

The effect of slow-release fertilizer can last for a long time, so fertilization does not need to be too frequent, generally once a month is sufficient.

4. Fertilizer types

Geraniums bloom frequently and in large quantities, so they require more fertilizer. In daily maintenance, you can regularly use organic water-soluble fertilizer + potassium dihydrogen phosphate to promote growth and flowering.

5. Fertilization method

In the spring and autumn seasons of vigorous growth, apply liquid fertilizer once every 7 to 10 days; apply nitrogen fertilizer mainly before budding, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer mainly after budding.

6. Fertilize during flowering period

During the flowering period, too much nitrogen fertilizer should not be applied, and compound fertilizer containing phosphorus should be selected. The amount of fertilizer to be applied depends on the size of the pot. Top dressing should be done once before flowering, and additional fertilizer should be applied after flowering.

7. Base fertilizer

When potting or repotting, adding base fertilizer, such as fermented sesame cake fertilizer, will help loosen the soil and allow it to breathe, which is beneficial for root growth.

When fertilizing, the fertilizer should not get on the leaves and flowers to avoid causing rot. At the same time, phosphorus should be the main element during the flowering period, and excessive nitrogen fertilizer should be avoided. Avoid using potassium phosphate monobasic when geraniums are young, as it may cause the plants to grow more slowly and have smaller leaves. Wait until the geranium has flower buds, then use potassium dihydrogen phosphate to promote flowering.
