How to grow mulberry trees?

The mulberry tree is a tree species with strong adaptability and easy management. Its whole body is a treasure. Its fruit is called mulberry, which is sweet and juicy and is a fruit that people often eat. So how do you grow mulberry trees? Let’s learn the method below.

1. Planting time

Mulberry trees can be planted from the time they shed their leaves and enter dormancy (early December) to before they sprout in the following spring, but they should not be planted on rainy days. Apply sufficient base fertilizer, 1,000 kg of farm organic fertilizer and 50 kg of phosphate fertilizer per mu.

2. Planting method

Before planting mulberry seedlings, the roots of the seedlings should be trimmed, and the overlong and damaged mulberry roots should be cut off. The mulberry seedlings in the same plot should be of the same size. The seedlings should be planted in sunny fields, mainly in an east-west direction, with ventilation as the main focus, and the operation should be carried out in accordance with the plot. Dig deep planting trenches with a width of 40-50 cm and a depth of 50 cm, with 1,000 plants per acre.

3. Seedling management

Mulberry growers should plant mulberry trees in February or March when spring comes or around November when autumn comes. This is the best time to plant mulberry trees. After planting, it is necessary to apply fertilizer and add water. The purpose of doing this is to ensure that the soil where the mulberry trees are planted has sufficient water and nutrients, which is conducive to the better growth of the mulberry trees.

4. Pruning

Mulberry trees will grow branches in the later stages of their growth and require regular pruning and management. For the parts of the seedlings that are infected with diseases and insect pests, you should choose healthy ointments to apply and avoid excessive use of pesticides . Generally speaking, the best time to shape and prune mulberry trees is in spring, summer and autumn. This is mainly because winter is cold and not suitable for pruning. During the shaping and pruning process, the main trunk of the mulberry tree should be kept strong, and diseased and insect-infested and weak branches should be cut off.

5. Field management

The fertilizer application standard for that year was that 10 dan of human and animal manure could be applied per acre in late April, 7.5 kg of urea and 15 kg of compound fertilizer could be applied from late May to early June, 10 kg of urea and 10 dan of human and animal manure could be applied from late July to early August, and weeding and insect control should be strengthened in the new mulberry garden. In the spring of the second year, 10 kg of urea and 20 kg of compound fertilizer are applied per mu. In summer, 15 kg of urea and 10 dan of human and animal manure are applied per mu. In autumn, 10 kg of urea is applied per mu. In winter, 15 dan of organic fertilizer is applied per mu. In the third year, fertilize according to the standards for mature mulberry orchards.

6. Pest and disease control

The main diseases and pests that occur on mulberry trees include powdery mildew, spring loopers, scale insects, etc. During the entire production process, pest and disease control should be considered comprehensively from multiple aspects, including pest and disease source control, agricultural measures, protection of natural enemies, physical and biological measures, and the use of protective pesticides. Do not rely solely on pesticides and avoid the use of highly toxic and high-residue pesticides.
