How to care for spiderwort in winter

How to care for spiderwort in winter

1. Warming up and keeping warm

Net-veined grass is afraid of freezing, and the maintenance temperature in winter cannot be lower than 13℃, otherwise the plant will stop growing and drop its leaves. If the temperature is lower than 8℃, net-veined grass will even freeze to death, so it is best to keep it in a heated room in winter.

2. Get more sun

Reticulate grass is afraid of the sun, but the light in winter is warm and soft, so if you grow reticulate grass at home, you can expose it to the sun more in winter. Adequate light is beneficial for reticulate grass to accumulate nutrients, making the color of the leaves brighter and more lustrous.

3. Control watering

The temperature is low in winter. In order to allow the spider grass to safely overwinter, the soil in the pot should be kept slightly dry. You can weigh the soil in the pot frequently and water it when it feels noticeably lighter. Each watering should be done at noon when the temperature is best, and the water should be dried in advance.

4. Do not apply fertilizer

The temperature is low in winter, so do not apply fertilizer. The spiderwort will go dormant at low temperatures. If you apply fertilizer at this time, not only will the spiderwort not be able to absorb it, but it will also easily cause fertilizer damage and root burn. Therefore, do not apply fertilizer in winter when the temperature is below 15℃.

5. Notes

The temperature is low in winter, so do not repot your home-grown spiderwort, and do not prune or graft it. Pay attention to ventilation when maintaining it indoors, but avoid the invasion of cold wind. If individual leaves fall off, clean them up at any time to prevent the occurrence of diseases and pests.
