The quality of rice seedlings is critical to the growth and harvest of rice. Rice seedling cultivation can be divided into many forms, including water seedling cultivation, moist seedling cultivation, dry seedling cultivation, two-stage seedling cultivation, and plastic floppy disk seedling cultivation. Below I will introduce Sichuan rice seedling raising method in water, let’s take a look. 1. Seed preparation Choose the varieties to be planted based on the actual local soil and climate conditions. In addition, people’s consumption habits cannot be ignored. 90% of the rice grown by farmers is sold, so it is necessary to consider not only the yield but also the rice yield rate. Otherwise, the harvest may not be good, resulting in unnecessary losses. 2. Drying seeds A few days before breeding, choose a sunny day and spread the seeds on a mat or in a basket to dry for 2-3 days. The seeds should be spread evenly without being pressed down, and turned over frequently. They should be dried during the day and harvested at night. The purpose of drying seeds is to awaken rice seeds from dormancy, increase seed activity, and facilitate uniform germination. 3. Disinfection and germination Use one bottle of carbendazim or rice seed fungicide and add twice the amount of water as the rice seeds. Use one bottle for 6 to 7 pounds of rice seeds and two bottles for 10 pounds. When germinating, the seeds should not have white spots and the water temperature should be around 35 degrees. The method is to carry the net bag containing the seeds and rinse it back and forth in a bucket of warm water several times, and then immediately put it into a breathable linen bag and cover it to achieve the purpose of insulation. 4. Land preparation and ridge building Ten days before raising the seedlings, the seedling field should be cleared of weeds and the remaining rice stubble from the previous year, and then leveled with a rotary harrow until it becomes a powdery state. Apply 15 to 20 kilograms of compound fertilizer to each three-tenth of the rice seedling field, plus 10 kilograms of superphosphate, or use a 20-kilogram bag of special fertilizer for rice seedlings, plus 5 kilograms of superphosphate. Do not use farmyard manure as it will easily breed weeds which will be difficult to remove. Build a bed with a width of 1.2 to 1.5 meters and a length of 10 to 15 meters, and dredge the ditches on all four sides of the bed. 5. Planting seeds The day before sowing, water the ground until the soil on the ridge surface is soft and muddy. First use a melon hook to level the bed surface, then use a 1.5-meter-long ash board to smooth it and remove the mud. Sowing is done in two times. Use 3-4 kilograms of germinated rice seeds for one furrow. The purpose of this is to sow the seeds evenly. Then cover the ground with plastic film and press it down with mud. After the water in the rice field is drained, sprinkle chlorpyrifos granules around the surface of the bed to prevent underground pests. 6. Rice field management If you notice the surface of the bed is turning white, you can remove the plastic film after 5 pm on a sunny day. Be gentle when removing the film to avoid removing the rice sprouts . When the seeds have not fully germinated and are turning green, the principle of watering is to add water during the day and replenish water at night. This will avoid large temperature differences that affect germination. The above is an introduction to the rice seedling raising method in Sichuan. The rice seedling raising method in water often has disadvantages such as bad seeds and rotten sprouts, low germination and seedling survival rates, slender and weak seedlings, and weak tillering. It is a traditional method used in my country's rice-growing areas.
