When is the right time to plant spinach?

There are many types of vegetables in China, such as root vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, leafy vegetables , etc. Each type can be subdivided into countless varieties. For example, spinach is a leafy vegetable. Let’s learn today when is the best time to plant spinach?

1. Spring Spinach

Spring is the golden season for spinach growth, and the best time to plant spring spinach is generally between mid-March and mid-April. During this period, the temperature rises and the sunshine is abundant, which is very suitable for the growth of spinach. Spring spinach can be planted after the beginning of spring when the temperature is stable above 5℃.

2. Summer Spinach

Summer spinach is heat-resistant and grows fast, and can be sown from May to July. The climate is hot in summer. In order to prevent the impact of high temperature on the growth of spinach, you can choose heat-resistant varieties for planting.

3. Autumn Spinach

Autumn spinach is usually sown from August to September and can be harvested in batches 30-50 days after sowing. Autumn spinach is highly heat-resistant and suitable for growing in a cool autumn climate. The best planting time is generally from late September to mid-to-early October.

4. Winter Spinach

Overwintering spinach is very cold-resistant and is usually sown in October and November and harvested around the Spring Festival. Winter spinach can grow in cooler temperatures and is suitable for growing in cooler seasons.

5. Sowing method

Before sowing, it is recommended to air the spinach seeds for 1-2 days and then soak them in water for 5-6 hours. When sowing, you can choose a plot of land that is sheltered from the wind and facing the sun, and add sufficient amount of decomposed organic fertilizer after tilling the soil. After the seeds are evenly sown, water them once to keep the soil moist.

6. Field management

Spinach needs plenty of water during its growth period, but overwatering will cause waterlogging in the soil and affect growth. Therefore, after sowing, pay attention to proper watering to keep the soil moist. In addition, spinach is susceptible to diseases and pests during its growth process and requires timely prevention and control.

Generally speaking, spinach can be grown all year round, but the planting time varies slightly in each season. Spring and autumn are ideal seasons for growing spinach . Spinach is a vegetable with strong adaptability to the environment and can grow in a variety of different geographical and climatic conditions.
