Muskmelon is a very popular fruit with a sweet taste and rich nutrition. It is widely cultivated throughout the country and also in temperate to tropical regions of the world. Below we will introduce to you the method and time of melon seedling cultivation. Muskmelon seedling raising time Different melon seedling raising methods have different times. Early spring melons in solar greenhouses are generally raised in mid-to-late December; autumn delayed crops in solar greenhouses are suitable for raising seedlings in mid-July; and summer crops in greenhouses are generally raised in early March. Muskmelon seedling cultivation method 1. Nutrient soil Muskmelon seedlings can be grown in conventional nutrient soil or in hole trays. The preparation method of nutrient soil is to mix poultry and livestock manure (already decomposed) and furnace ash in a ratio of 2:3, and mash them evenly without any lumps. It is best to sieve it, and then use carbendazim or other sterilization and disinfection methods. 2. Seed treatment 2 days before sowing, expose the seeds to the sun for 1-2 days, then clean them with 50℃ warm water, stir slowly for 15-20 minutes, and after cooling, soak the seeds in 200 times potassium permanganate solution for 20-30 minutes. Then clean the residual medicine on the seeds once in the morning and evening every day, wrap them with wet cloth, and germinate them at 28-30℃. After germination, they can be sown. 3. Planting seeds Before sowing, the seedbed should be thoroughly irrigated with water and covered with soil with a thickness of 1.5 cm. After placing the seeds on the seedbed, cover them with plastic film and arch the greenhouse. Normally, the seedlings will emerge in 5 days. When the emergence rate reaches 70%, the plastic film should be lifted to cool down the temperature to ensure that the seedlings have sufficient light and grow strong and well. 4. Seedling management Before germination, high temperature should be applied to promote early germination. The suitable temperature is between 22℃-26℃. At this time, you should pay attention to not watering for 4-5 days to avoid empty growth. After the melon seedlings emerge, they should be hardened for 4-5 days. The daytime temperature should be maintained at 20-25℃, and the night temperature should be reduced to 8-10℃. The film should be removed early and covered late, the dust on the film should be removed in time, and the light time and intensity should be extended. 5. Disease prevention and control In the 7-10 days before transplanting the melon seedlings, it is necessary to prevent the occurrence of sudden wilt and damping-off disease in the seedling stage. If found, pull them out immediately and spray them with drugs in time. You can use 400 times diluted copper ammonium mixture (copper ammonium ratio = 2:11) or 300 times diluted thiophanate-methyl to irrigate the roots. That’s it |
