How to prolong the flowering period of bougainvillea

How to prolong the flowering period of bougainvillea

1. The flowering period of this plant

Its flowering period is relatively long compared to other plants. Generally speaking, its flowering time is concentrated from around November to around April of the following year. That is to say, if it is well cared for, the flowering period can last up to five or six months each time. However, there will be differences depending on the variety and the region. The above situation is just a rough outline.

2. How to extend

(1) Flower fertilizer: This aspect is undoubtedly very important. We all know that a lot of nutrients are consumed during flowering. To extend the flowering period, the nutrients contained in the soil are not enough. At this time, we need to apply some flower fertilizer. We can choose to use some compound fertilizers and superphosphate. Using them alternately is best. Alternatively, other liquid fertilizers are also acceptable. As for specific nutrient elements, you can use more fertilizers containing more P and K elements to promote the differentiation of flower buds.

(2) Light: This plant is very light-loving. Especially during flowering period. Light allows the plants to accumulate some nutrients. Therefore, in order to prolong its flowering period, we must give it more sunlight. Ten to twelve hours a day is best. If this cannot be met, artificial lighting can also be used. However, it should be noted that ventilation conditions must be guaranteed.

(3) Temperature: Only by adjusting this factor can we ensure that it blooms for a long time. We can control it at around 20 degrees. In addition, it is also related to the amount of flower fertilizer used. If the temperature is high enough, it doesn't matter if you apply more flower fertilizer.
