How to grow Phalaenopsis at home? What to do if the flower stems do not grow

1. How to raise Phalaenopsis at home

1. Potting soil: It is an epiphytic orchid, and the original variety is attached to rocks or tree trunks. Therefore, when cultivating it, you can use a mixture of sphagnum moss, bark blocks and vermiculite to make potting soil, which is more conducive to growth. The requirements for flower pots are not high, plastic pots or clay pots are fine, as long as the size is appropriate.

2. Watering: It is recommended to water according to the season. Water frequently during the peak growing season to keep the substrate moist. Be careful not to accumulate water, otherwise the fleshy roots will easily rot. When the growth is slow in winter, you need to control the watering and don’t water it unless the soil is dry.

3. Temperature: Its origin is in the subtropical region. It likes warmth and is afraid of cold environments. The temperature must be maintained above 15 degrees, even in winter, otherwise you may get frostbite. In high temperature environments, it can be placed in a well-ventilated place outdoors to avoid infection by pests and diseases.

4. Light: It likes diffuse light and is afraid of shade and strong light. Therefore, when raising it at home, just place it on a windowsill with diffused light, and block direct sunlight in time to avoid sunburn. If the flower does not see light for a long time, its color will fade and its branches and leaves will tend to grow too tall.

2. What to do if the foil does not grow

The lack of flower stems is mostly caused by lack of light or too much fertilizer and water. In these two cases, the plant tends to grow too tall and most of the nutrients are consumed by the branches and leaves, making it difficult to bloom. It is recommended to move it to a bright place and get more sun. You also need to control water and stop applying fertilizer, especially in autumn. More ventilation, water and appropriate nutrients are needed so that flower swords can grow.
