How to grow hibiscus well

How to grow hibiscus well

1. Lighting

Hibiscus flowers like light and require daily care. Except for the need for appropriate shading in the summer, they should be exposed to the sun all day long in other seasons. When there is sufficient light, the leaves of the plant will be dark green and the flowers will bloom luxuriantly. When there is insufficient light, the hibiscus flowers will bloom less and the buds will fall off easily.

2. Temperature

The most suitable growth temperature for hibiscus is 18-25℃. In winter, it is best to place the potted plants in a room with a temperature of 0-5℃ to allow the plants to fully dormant and overwinter naturally, which is conducive to growth and flowering in the next year. The plants will shed leaves during dormancy, which is a normal phenomenon.

3. Watering

When watering during the growing period, you should adhere to the principle of "watering when the soil is dry and watering when the soil is wet". When the soil surface turns white and dries, and there is a slight crack between the soil and the flowerpot, water thoroughly. As the temperature drops in late autumn, gradually reduce the amount of watering and keep the soil in the pot slightly moist.

4. Fertilization

In the spring and autumn of each year, you can change the potting soil for hibiscus flowers. When repotting, apply base fertilizer to the bottom of the pot, apply top dressing during the growing season, and water with fertilizer and water containing a balanced amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Switch to phosphorus and potassium fertilizers before flowering, and stop fertilizing during the flowering period and in winter.

5. Note

In summer, there is sufficient sunlight and high temperature, so you can frequently sprinkle water on the leaves and surrounding areas of the plant to cool it down. Do not spray water on the leaves when flowers are blooming. In winter, the light is soft and the temperature is low, so you need more sunshine and water the plants when the temperature is highest at noon. The water should also be left to air-dry for a day in advance.
