Why do the leaves of green radish turn yellow?

Why do the leaves of green radish turn yellow?

Causes and solutions

Improper watering

Flower lovers naturally have a lot of love for plants. They are afraid that the green radish does not have enough water, so they keep watering it. However, this will only backfire. If you water it too much, the tender leaves will turn dark yellow and lose their luster, gradually stop growing, and the branches will become thin and yellow-green.

But if you are careless and often forget to water the green radish, that is not a good idea. Long-term lack of water will cause the tips and edges of the green radish to dry up, and the old leaves will turn yellow and fall off from top to bottom.

Solution: If you water too much, immediately remove the green radish from the pot and place it in a ventilated, cool place. Wait until the soil is completely dry before putting it back into the pot.

If you water too little, water the green radish in time and maintain good watering habits.

Improper lighting

Green radish generally grows in a cool environment. If it is placed under strong sunlight for a long time, the leaves will easily shrink, turn yellow and fall off.

However, blindly placing it in a cold and closed environment is not good for the growth of the green radish. The green leaves will lack chlorophyll and turn yellow.

Solution: If there is too much light, you should move the green radish to a cool, well-lit place in time and water it appropriately; if there is insufficient light, you should place the green radish in a cool but well-lit place.

Improper fertilization

If too much fertilizer is applied and the fertilizer concentration in the soil is too high, the tips of newly grown leaves will appear dry brown, the leaf surface will be thick but dull, and the old leaves will turn yellow and fall off.

If there is a long-term lack of fertilizer, the plants will be malnourished during growth, the color of the young leaves will fade to yellow or light green, and the old leaves will gradually turn from green to yellow.

Solution: If too much fertilizer is applied, first stop fertilizing immediately. If the situation is serious, wash off some of the fertilizer with clean water in time, or directly replace the substrate.

If you apply too little fertilizer, first check whether the soil in the pot is dry and hard. If so, change the soil in time.

Sudden environmental changes

People will have difficulty acclimatizing when they arrive in an unfamiliar environment, let alone plants. Sudden changes in temperature, humidity, light, or root damage due to repotting can cause the leaves of the green radish to turn yellow.

Solution: In this case, don't be too anxious. You can take measures to reduce environmental changes. After the green radish gradually adapts, the leaves will turn green again.

How to prevent

Watering

When growing green radish, do not over-water it. At most, spray water on the roots. You only need to ensure that the soil is moist. You can sprinkle water on the leaves frequently to cool the green radish and replenish moisture at the same time.

Water more often in summer, but follow the principle of "keep the soil moist but not waterlogged". Reduce watering in winter, once every two to three days is enough.

Reasonable lighting

Although the green radish likes a cool environment, it is best to expose it to sunlight at noon for photosynthesis. Then bring it back indoors and make sure it is exposed to strong light once within half a month.

In summer, be sure not to expose the green radish to direct sunlight, as the leaves will be burned. In winter, it can be exposed to appropriate sunlight.

Control the amount of fertilizer

Because the requirements of the green radish for fertilizer are relatively high, it is best to use special fertilizers and add less inorganic fertilizers.

In winter, the growth rate of green radish slows down, so less fertilizer should be applied, but the amount of fertilizer can be increased appropriately during the summer growing season, and the main method of fertilization is spraying liquid fertilizer.

Pay attention to observation

During the growth process of the green radish, you should pay more attention to observe it. If you find that the leaves turn yellow, find the cause in time and take corresponding measures. Do not leave it aside after buying it home. Otherwise, various problems will arise in the growth of the green radish, and it will eventually die.
