How to grow orchids in a heated room in winter

How to grow orchids in a heated room in winter

1. Lighting

The light in winter is warm and soft, and there will be no sunburn caused by excessive light, so orchids should be exposed to more sunlight. Sufficient light can allow orchids to accumulate nutrients. Insufficient light will cause orchids to grow slowly, and their stems and leaves will become thin and leggy and will not bloom.

2. Temperature

Orchids are sensitive to temperature. For example, if the temperature difference between day and night is small during maintenance, or the night temperature is too high, it will affect the flowering of the plant. For example, orchids that need vernalization before they can bloom must have a low temperature period of 4-10℃ for one to two months in winter.

3. Watering

When growing orchids in a heated room in winter, the indoor temperature is high and you can water them as usual. For example, you can insert a long bamboo stick in the flowerpot, pull it out when you have nothing to do, and then water it thoroughly. The bamboo stick method is suitable for any season of the year.

4. Humidity

When growing orchids in a heated room in winter, the most fatal thing is actually the air humidity. Because the heating is on, the air humidity is particularly dry. You must frequently spray water around the plants to increase the humidity, or place a few pots of water next to the potted plants, and use a humidifier if conditions permit.

5. Ventilation

In winter, when heating, doors and windows are closed. When spraying water around the plants, be careful not to spray on the leaves, otherwise water will accumulate on the leaves of the plants. If the room is not ventilated, it will be easy for the leaves and stems to rot. It is best to open the windows frequently for ventilation at noon when the temperature is highest.
