1. Variety selection

When planting spring corn in March, it is recommended to choose high-quality corn varieties with a growth period of more than 112 days, a well-developed root system, a compact plant shape, upward leaves, strong growth, strong resistance to stress, single ear, and large grains.

2. Land preparation and fertilization

Generally, land preparation begins after the previous crop is harvested. Organic fertilizer is applied in combination with land preparation, and ridges are formed. The tillage depth is generally 16 cm to 20 cm. The amount of base fertilizer accounts for 50%-60% of the total amount of fertilizer applied. Generally, 30-40 dan of water-based manure or dry manure, 25 kg of phosphate fertilizer, and 8-10 kg of potassium fertilizer are applied per 667 square meters of field.

3. Seed treatment

The purpose of corn seed treatment is to increase the germination rate and promote early germination of seeds. There are many methods, such as soaking seeds in cold water for 6-8 hours, or soaking seeds in warm water for 4-5 hours. In addition, you can also use coating agents to treat the seeds, such as using 2% of Likeshow to mix the seeds.

4. Sowing method

Intercropping corn is mostly done by spot sowing, while machine-sown corn is mostly done by row sowing. The sowing depth should be 3-5 cm. When the soil moisture conditions are poor, the sowing depth can be appropriately increased. In addition, in order to ensure the seedling density and uniform emergence, the sowing amount should generally be controlled at: 45-60 kg/mu for row sowing and 38-54 kg/mu for spot sowing.

5. Reasonable density planting

Increasing planting density is an important factor in achieving a high yield of spring corn. The planting density in plots with higher soil fertility is generally around 4,500 plants; in plots with lower soil fertility, it is appropriate to have around 4,000 plants per mu.
