The peony stopped blooming after being repotted. When should I repot the peony?

1. What to do if it doesn't bloom

If the peony is repotted during the flowering period, it will easily cause the plant to not bloom. Because flowering requires continuous nutrients, and repotting will change the growth environment, thereby suspending the growth of the plant. It takes a certain period of time to acclimate to the pot. After acclimatization, the plant resumes growth and will soon continue to bloom.

2. Repotting Method

1. Repotting time: Peonies are usually repotted in spring and autumn, when the climate is relatively mild and the plants grow faster, making them easier to adapt to new pots. If carried out in summer, the high temperature and high humidity climate will often affect the growth of the plants. However, the temperature is too low in winter, and it takes too long to recover after repotting.

2. Remove the plant from the pot and trim the roots: Before repotting the peony, you need to take the plant out of the pot first, and be careful not to damage the roots in the process. Then remove some of the old soil from the roots, trim the roots with sterilized scissors, and spray carbendazim on the wound for disinfection. Then put it in a cool and ventilated place and wait for the wound to dry gradually.

3. Preparation of potting soil: Peony is suitable for growing in loose and fertile soil. If the soil is too sticky, it will be detrimental to the breathing of the roots. It is usually made with garden soil, river sand and decomposed needles, with the ratio of the three being 5:3:2. It should be noted that the needles must be fully decomposed before use, otherwise fermentation can easily burn the roots.

4. Potting and maintenance: Place the peony upright in the prepared new pot, fill it with the prepared soil, compact it after filling, and then water it sufficiently. Place the plant in a warm place, away from sunlight. After the plant resumes growth, it can be exposed to light and some fertilizer can be added.
