The difference between iris and calamus

Iris

Iris is a perennial aquatic flower belonging to the Iridaceae family.

The appearance of iris is that its stem is thick, short and cylindrical, with many fibrous roots. Its leaves are linear, with raised veins in the middle and relatively flat veins on both sides. Its flowers are very large, and the three outer petals are elliptical to obovate, and the middle part of the flower has yellow spots and purple textures. The flower colors vary from white to dark purple, with a wide range of spots and patterns.

The flowering period of iris is generally between June and July.

Iris prefers a moist and warm environment and needs fertile and moist soil. Most of them grow in swamps or wet places on river banks.

calamus

Acorus is a perennial herb with a thick stem that grows horizontally, has branches and is yellowish-brown in appearance. Its leaves are sword-shaped and linear, with veins protruding in the middle.

The color of calamus is green and shiny. Its flowers are yellow-green and bloom from June to September in late summer and early autumn, lasting four months.

Acorus likes to grow in swamps or on the edges of floating islands in lakes. It prefers warm and humid climates, and will bury its stems in the soil in winter.
