Lavender pruning

Lavender pruning can be divided into growing season pruning and flowering season pruning:

To facilitate harvesting, some small flowers in the early stage of lavender cultivation can be trimmed with a large knife. The newly grown inflorescences will be of uniform height, which is conducive to harvesting. The height of some lavender varieties can reach 90 cm. This method can also be used to promote plants to have more branches and bloom, thereby increasing the harvest.

During the flowering period of lavender, trim the flower stems by cutting off two-thirds of it and leaving one-third of the flower stems. It can also be trimmed a few weeks after flowering. During daily planting, dead branches can be cut off at any time.

Lavender Pruning Tips

Lavender can be pruned appropriately during its flowering period, and all dead branches, old branches, overgrown branches and diseased branches can be pruned off to save nutrients and allow the plant to grow better.

Lavender can be properly pruned in late summer and early autumn to promote the sprouting of new branches and make it grow faster.

Lavender pruning flowering

When lavender is in bloom, we mainly prune the branches with poor momentum and few flowers, so as to promote the thick branches to have more nutrients and enable it to bloom more.

Lavender pruning precautions

When pruning lavender, you need to choose a sharp knife to prune the branches and disinfect them in advance to prevent bacteria from infecting the plant wounds. When pruning, be careful not to cut the woody parts to avoid weakening and dying the plant.
