1. Cutting timeThe time for Milan cuttings is usually from April to June. Since it grows in the south, it prefers a warm environment, and slightly higher temperatures are more conducive to the rooting of cuttings. Usually when the ground temperature reaches 30-32℃, it takes 40 days to take root. If the ground temperature is only 25-28℃, it will take 50-60 days for the seeds to take root. The lower the temperature, the slower the rooting process. 2. Cuttings processingWhen propagating Milan cuttings, you must choose a plant that is growing well and free of diseases and pests. Cut an annual woody branch from it. The leaves at the top of the branch should be thick and green, and the axillary buds should be full. Cut it into 10 cm sections, keep the top 2-3 leaves, cut off the rest, and flatten the bottom cut. 3. Pot soil preparationIf you want the cuttings to take root, you must provide a loose and breathable substrate. Usually vermiculite or coarse sand is sufficient. Do not use too fertile soil, otherwise it will be detrimental to the growth of new roots. The substrate can be exposed to the sun before use to kill the germs and insect eggs inside. It should be noted that this plant cannot take root in hydroponics as the period required is too long. 4. Take cuttingsAfter preparing the potting soil and cuttings, you can start grafting. First, use a bamboo chopstick to dig a hole in the potting soil, one-third the depth of the branch, then insert the cutting into the hole and compact the surrounding soil to make the bottom and soil fit better. After the cuttings are completed, water them sufficiently, provide appropriate shade and maintain good ventilation. |
