Milan breeding method, how to breed Milan

1. Cutting propagation

1. Cutting time: Milan cuttings are usually carried out from April to June. The temperature is relatively high at this time, making it easier for cuttings to take root. When the local temperature is 25-28℃, the cuttings need 50-60 days to take root. When the local temperature is 30-32℃, the cuttings can take root in just 40 days after cutting.

2. Cuttings processing: Usually select a healthy Milan plant and cut an annual woody branch from it as a cutting. The leaves at the top of the branch should be thick and green, and the axillary buds should be full. The length of the cut should be about 10 cm. Remove the leaves in the middle and lower parts, leaving only 2-3 leaves on the top, and flatten the bottom.

3. Soil preparation: The substrate for Milan cuttings should generally be loose and have good drainage, which is conducive to the growth and breathing of new roots. Generally, vermiculite or coarse sand can be used. In order to avoid insect eggs or bacteria, you can put it in a sunny place for exposure to the sun first, or fry it in an abandoned pot, which can also have the effect of disinfection and sterilization.

4. Carry out cuttings: Use a bamboo chopstick to make a hole in the prepared substrate and insert the branch into it, with the depth being greater than one-third of its length. Compact the soil by hand to ensure that the substrate and the cuttings fit snugly. After cuttings, water thoroughly once, maintain good ventilation, and avoid direct sunlight.

2. Layering propagation

1. Layering time: Milan layering is usually carried out from April to August. Just like cuttings, you should choose a time when the temperature is higher and the plant is growing faster, so that it is easier to take root.

2. Select branches and ring bark: Choose one-year-old woody branches and ring bark them 20 cm from the bifurcation with a width of about 0.5 cm. The xylem should be visible after ring barking.

3. Cover with soil to keep moist: Wrap the ring-barking area with moss or wet soil, and then cover it with plastic film to keep moisturizing.

4. Division and transplanting: Usually the ring-barking area will take root in about two months, but it cannot be transplanted immediately. It usually takes half a year to separate them and then plant them in pots.
