Cherry planting time and method

Cherry planting time and method

Cherries are produced in the United States, Chile and other places. Their fruits are bright in color and have high nutritional value. Their iron content ranks first among all fruits . They are a very popular fruit and are grown in many areas of China. Here is an introduction to the time and method of planting cherries .

Cherry planting time

Cherries are planted in spring and autumn. In arid areas with cold winters, spring planting can be chosen; in areas with warmer winters, autumn planting can be chosen. In spring, cherry seedlings are transplanted in mid-March. In autumn, the best planting period is around October to November, when the survival rate is higher.

Cherry planting method

1. Selection of plots

The land for cultivating cherries should be located in a location that is sheltered from the wind and facing the sun, with fertile soil, good air permeability, good drainage and irrigation, and appropriate acidity and alkalinity. Because the roots of cherries are distributed vertically and concentrated in the 20cm deep soil layer, the soil of the cultivation site should be loose and they cannot be planted in heavy clay soil.

2. Planting management

Dig a small hole every 20-30 cm, then put the sapling in, cover it with a small amount of soil, cover it with a lid, gently compact it with your hands, and water it once. After it is planted and survives, water the cherry saplings frequently. Do not allow water to accumulate. Wait until the rainy season and drain it frequently.

3. Management after planting

Because cherry trees grow vigorously, it is necessary to apply an appropriate amount of quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer in the early stage to facilitate root growth. When they enter the peak flowering period, spray the leaves with 1-2 times of dilute urea solution, add an appropriate amount of boron fertilizer or potassium dihydrogen phosphate, and then water them. Keep the soil moist during the growth period.

4. Plastic and pruning

There are four main types of cherry tree shaping: natural cluster shape, natural open-heart shape, sparse layered shape, and "Y" shape. "Natural cluster shape" is the most common tree shape of cherries. Generally, there are 5-6 main branches, each with 3-4 side branches. Both the main and side branches have fruit-bearing branches. The tree has a large angle and is spread out on all sides, and the fruits grow quickly.

The pruning time for cherries is generally after they bear fruit in the summer, and protective work should be done after pruning; the pruning of aging trees is mainly to rejuvenate them in time, use the strong growing branches to form a new crown, and remove the weak growing branches. The main purpose of pruning fruit trees is to clear out branches that disrupt the tree shape and overly dense branches in the crown to ensure the smooth formation of flower buds.

5. Protect flowers and fruits

The phenomenon of cherry flowers and fruits falling is quite serious, so you should pay attention to protecting the flowers and fruits. To protect the flowers, pay attention to the fertilizer and water management in spring to ensure normal flowering. The purpose of fruit preservation is to increase the fruit setting rate, which can be achieved by artificial assisted pollination, spraying of green fenwei foliar fertilizer , gibberellin and other plant hormones.
