Does asparagus fern need root pruning when repotting? How to repot asparagus fern

1. Do you need to repair the roots?

It is usually necessary to repot asparagus fern once every 1-2 years. After the plant has grown for such a long time, the roots are likely to become withered and diseased. Therefore, such unhealthy roots must be cut off. Only after pruning can new roots grow and its entire root system can become stronger. When pruning the root system, generally cut off diseased roots, old roots, thin roots, etc. After pruning the roots, the wounds should be treated in time and disinfected with potassium permanganate or carbendazim, otherwise it will be easy to get infected after potting.

2. How to change the pot

1. Removing the pot: Stop watering two days before repotting, as this will make it easier to remove the pot. First, loosen the soil in the pot, and then pour out the asparagus fern. The soil on the roots should be removed, but the roots should not be damaged. The roots should be trimmed and disinfected after removing from the pot. In addition, if the branches and leaves are not in good growth condition, they should be pruned appropriately.

2. Potting soil: Prepare a larger flower pot, disinfect it, and put some clean stones at the bottom of the pot to make it more breathable. Then expose the new nutrient soil to the sun for disinfection and put it into the flowerpot.

3. Potting: After pruning and disinfecting the roots of asparagus fern, place it in the prepared potting soil, allowing its roots to stretch well, and then fill it up. After potting, you need to water it thoroughly and then place it in a cool, ventilated place. It will usually take about half a month to adapt to the pot.
