1. Growth process

1. Germination period: The germination period mainly refers to the period from when the gourd is sown to when it grows the first leaf. Under suitable conditions such as temperature and moisture, it usually takes about 5 to 7 days.

2. Seedling stage: After the true leaves unfold, they gradually grow larger and carry out photosynthesis, providing nutrients for the continued growth of the seedlings. The seedling stage is from the time the first true leaf unfolds to the time 4 to 5 true leaves unfold, which lasts about 25 days.

3. Initial flowering period: It refers to the stage from the appearance of the first female flower to the opening of the first melon root. Generally, it takes about 20-25 days from the planting of seedlings to the flowering and fruiting of the first female flower.

4. Fruit-setting period: The fruit-setting period is from the time when the first fruit is planted on the root to the end of harvesting. The surface of the fruit is smooth, initially green and then turns white or yellow, with the upper part smaller than the lower part. The fruit-bearing period is generally around 50 days.

2. Breeding methods

1. Soil: It has strong growth ability and low requirements for soil. General soil can meet its growth conditions. However, it is best to choose fertile soil with good drainage and permeability and a soil pH of about 7 for planting, which is conducive to better growth and increased yield.

2. Temperature: It prefers a warm growing environment. When planting, try to keep the temperature at around 15 degrees, which is conducive to rooting and germination, and improves the germination rate and survival rate. During the growth process, keep the temperature at around 20 degrees, not too high or too low.

3. Water: It has high requirements for water and needs to be replenished with sufficient water in time during the growth process. Especially during the flowering and fruiting period, the demand for water will increase. However, the amount of water should be controlled between harvests to avoid excessive water content that reduces the storage resistance of the gourd.

4. Light: The gourd has a high demand for light. When planting, you must choose a place with good lighting conditions, and it is best to choose an open place for planting. If you are growing gourds at home, it is best to choose a balcony or a rooftop with sufficient light to maintain it.
