Mustard greens are a common wild vegetable in our lives. They have a unique taste and are rich in nutrients. Their seeds and whole plants can be used as medicine, so the benefits of planting them are very good. Therefore, there are currently many people growing mustard greens in various parts of our country. So when is the best time to sow mustard greens? Let’s learn more about it below. When is the best time to sow mustard? Mustard greens have high temperature requirements. Since they prefer a relatively warm environment, low temperatures can easily cause them to die, so their planting time is mostly concentrated in summer and autumn. If you are in the southern region, you can usually start in July. The further north you go, the later the planting time will be. If you are near the Yangtze River, you can start sowing around August. If you are in the north, such as Henan, you can usually start planting around October. Planting after October is not recommended. How to sow mustard? 1. Land preparation requirements Mustard seeds are tiny, so the land must be leveled and fined, weeds and garbage must be picked out, and deep ditches and high ridges (ridge width 2.5m) must be made to facilitate drainage of stagnant water. 2. Seed selection Seeds with bright orange-red color are preferred. After purchasing the seeds, they should be carefully selected first. In addition to cleaning out mixed impurities, full seeds should also be selected. 3. Drying seeds for disinfection After the mustard seeds are separated from the water, they are immediately spread out and exposed to the sun to reduce the water content in the body, promote the transformation of internal substances, end dormancy, and increase the germination rate. After drying the seeds, they should be disinfected in time. Fungicides such as carbendazim can be used to allow the seeds to be fully exposed to the liquid to kill all pathogens. 4. Germination treatment Mustard greens need to be germinated before sowing. You can put the mustard seeds in the cold storage layer of the refrigerator and control the temperature between 2-7°C. The germination rate can be increased through low-temperature germination. The germinated seeds are easier to germinate. 5. Sowing method Before sowing, be sure to water the soil thoroughly to keep it moist, which will help the seeds germinate. You can use a scattered sowing method for sowing, and the sowing depth should not be too shallow, generally about 3-5 cm deep in the soil. In general, mustard cultivation has good prospects and broad market demand, and is a planting project worthy of promotion. But before you start planting, you must first understand the planting time and method, so that you can better achieve success in planting.
