How to raise goslings to have a high survival rate?

Raising geese is a common and advantageous breeding project with low investment, quick results and good economic benefits. It is very popular in rural areas. However, due to lack of experience, many people have a very low survival rate of goslings , which greatly reduces the benefits of raising geese. So how can we raise goslings to have a high survival rate? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Temperature and humidity control

If goslings are to have a high survival rate, it is very important to control the temperature and humidity. First of all, the brooding room must maintain a suitable temperature. It must not be lower than 28℃ in the first week, and then drop by 1-2℃ every week. Secondly, the humidity should not be too high or too low. The most suitable humidity is around 65%, and it is best to keep it within the range of 60% to 70%.

2. Disease prevention

The goslings are immediately vaccinated against gosling plague after they arrive at the hatching farm. At the same time, inject Fiketing to prevent infectious serositis or Escherichia coli disease. At 7 days of age, the goose plague vaccine should be injected again, and at the same time, the Jiangyankang vaccine should be injected.

3. Breeding environment

Preparing a comfortable brooding environment is the key to improving the survival rate of goslings. Therefore, when preparing to raise goose seedlings, you need to take care of the breeding environment. First, you need to thoroughly disinfect the room that is going to be used as a goose house, especially a room that has just been painted or has not been used for a long time or has just raised other livestock. Try to disinfect it twice as much to avoid bacterial infection.

4. Lighting adjustment

One week old requires 24 hours of light, with a 5-watt bulb per square meter and the bulb about 2 meters above the ground. At 2 weeks of age, the light intensity is 18 hours per square meter with a 3-watt bulb; at 3 weeks of age, the light intensity is 16 hours per square meter with a 2-watt bulb. Natural light is used from 4 weeks of age, with low light at night for easier management.

5. Eating and drinking water

Goose seedlings should drink water before eating, which helps gastrointestinal digestion. When giving goslings water for the first time, you must press the goose's beak into the water basin. Only after training can the goslings drink water on their own. The daily diet for goslings is mainly composed of green vegetables, and 10%-30% rice or boiled corn residue can be added. When feeding, spread clean vegetable leaves on the straw mat or plate and let the goslings eat freely. If it does not know how to eat, you can put vegetable leaves to its mouth or sprinkle them on the goslings to lure it to eat.

6. Provide good ventilation

Goslings grow relatively quickly and have an active metabolism. In addition to ensuring adequate feed and water, they also need fresh air. Generally, in summer and autumn, ventilation is easier, just open the doors and windows. In winter and spring, ventilation and insulation are prone to conflict. Before ventilation, the temperature in the house should be raised by 2-3℃ first, and then the doors and windows should be opened gradually to prevent cold air from blowing directly onto the goslings.

In general, in order to improve the survival rate of goslings, many factors need to be taken into consideration, such as external environment such as temperature and humidity, light, as well as internal eating, drinking, defecation and urination. Only by managing these details well can we ensure the healthy growth of goslings.
