Citron cultivation methods and precautions

Citron cultivation methods and precautions

1. Maintenance methods

1. Soil: There are no strict requirements on the selection of soil. Deep soil is required. If the soil is loose, fertile and well-drained, it will be better, which is more suitable for the growth of citron.

2. Temperature: Citron is suitable for a high temperature and humid environment, so the best growth temperature is around 25°C. It is a relatively cold-intolerant plant and may be frozen to death if encountering severe cold, so the temperature must be well controlled.

3. Light: Sufficient light is required during the growth period, and no shade is allowed. It likes warm weather and will grow faster if given enough sunlight.

4. Water: Before flower buds form, reduce the amount of watering to gradually stop the growth of branches. After the flower bud differentiation is completed, slowly resume watering. When the potting soil is in a relatively dry state, you can sprinkle some water on the leaves in the morning and evening, and add a little water to the pot at noon. During the flowering and early stages of fruit setting, watering needs to be less than usual.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Pruning: When pruning, you need to cut off particularly long and overly dense branches, and when it bears fruit, you need to insert supports. During the growing season, it is best to combine shaping with tying, and try to retain more branches and leaves.

2. Repotting: During the seedling stage, the pot should be repotted and the soil changed once a year. After maturity, the pot can be repotted and the soil can be changed once every 2 years.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Pests: Pests include cottonwood scale insects, which can be controlled by using their natural enemy, the ladybug. You can also spray rosin mixture, dilute it 8-10 times in winter and 20 times in summer.

2. Leaf falling: Citron leaf falling is mostly caused by freezing. It is not cold-resistant, and even a slight severe cold will affect its growth. Therefore, pay attention to protection when maintaining it in winter.

IV. Other issues

1. Can it be grown indoors: Citron can be grown indoors. If it is cut into pieces inside the house, the room temperature must be kept at 25°C and a certain humidity must be maintained. However, the indoor temperature should not be too high during the fruit viewing period.

2. When will it bloom: It will bloom from the end of August to the beginning of September. Citron can refresh the air. If we create a fresh and moist environment for it, we can extend the viewing time.
